Conservatories
Traditionally conservatories served as very large greenhouses typically used to house plants that require humid temperatures to flourish. The term is still used to describe this type of installation, although in the UK when most people speak of conservatories they are referring to the small glass enclosures that are frequently built as extensions onto peoples' property. These small extensions are extremely popular in the UK and many people who are considering having an extension built onto the end of their home will often consider conservatories first as they are amongst the cheapest building extensions to build.
Many people will build conservatories that over look their gardens so that they can enjoy the view regardless of the weather. However the weather outside will often have a significant effect on the inside temperature of conservatories and when it is especially sunny conservatories can become incredibly hot and humid. Conversely, if the weather is cold then conservatories will also become very cold too, due to a lack of insulation from having both the walls and the ceiling constructed from glass.
The price of conservatories varies greatly. It is possible to have a simple conservatory added to your home for a relatively low cost. There are also much more expensive examples available too. If you are looking at conservatories and considering having one built on your property then you must ensure that you have planning permission from your local authority.
